Mind Uploading & The Singularity

I watched a BBC video documentary on the Singularity last week. I found this via Ugly’s Del.icio.us links. I know that Ugly is a huge Singularity fan and can’t wait for the day it will happen. Supposedly, all of mankind will make a huge leap forward in development and all kinds of societal ills will go away.
I must say that I’m a big skeptic about the outcomes of the Singularity. Its quite possible that it will happen but I wager that it won’t be used for the benefit of all mankind. Chances are the powerful and elite will use it to control the masses and make them do their bidding. I guess you can say that I’m cynical about my fellow brothers and sisters; time and time again we’ve proven that we’re scumbags!

THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO MY MIND WAS> “that’s what this world needs is more follow the leader chumps without any critical thinking ability.(LOSERS)”
But after watching the video i did think about the machenical arm control thru brain wave activety as a interesting concept.Maybe something to investigate with some possobillities.But i gotta tell you the monkey looked like it had more brains then those scientists.After all it did figure out it did’nt have to move it’s arm to move the joy stick to move the curser AND WHATS UP WITH THAT ONE SCIENTISTS LAUGH “YIKES”?!

dc: There’s some neat stuff that the technology can do, like helping the disabled and revolutionize the neuroscience field but what’s the ultimate price? Especially with laws like the US Patriot Act, could the government gain access to your thoughts in the future and prosecute you as a terrorist?

THAT WOULD FALL UNDER THOUGHT CRIMES.
That’s when someone thinks of doing something harmdull to someone else.
The basic problem with that is we all had crazy ideas from time to time, but that does not mean we would ever act them out.We can even find pleasure in visualizing some creton getting tar and feathered(figurativaly ) and put on display in the public eye to be huniliated.But to actually do it to them would be totally unlike us.SO I THINK THOUGHT CRIMES ARE LEFT TO THE CRETONS OF THIS WORLD TO ACT OUT, NOT US.
P.S. NOW IF THEY COULD FIGURE OUT WHO WAS A CRETON ,SO THEY COULD KEEP AN EYE ON HIM, THAT WOULD COME IN HANDY.
