For those who are new to YALE, learning it can be very scary. So as part of my growing tutorial posts, and as a way to share my learned knowledge with you, I wanted to explore selected operators with you in several posts. I'll be posting about the learners and genetic algorithms later but today I wanted to explore important data loading capabilities of YALE.

Yale IO OperatorVery simply, YALE has the capability to load all kinds of data formats. This comes in handy if you have a lot of data stored on your server, in databases, or even text files. I like to use the Excel spreadsheet loader but you can also load CSV files, Dbase files, and even SPSS files.

One thing to be aware of when using these data loading operators is that that each type of data loader has its own set of parameters. You will have to always identify an ID (unless you use the ID generator operator) and a LABEL variable. The ID is just a key for YALE and yourself to identify the possible 1000's of rows of data you'll model and the LABEL variable is your output variable.
